MUSIC: A Great Big World - Already Home

A Great Big World have been one of my favourite discoveries this year. 'Say Something' will always hold a very special place in my heart for personal reasons. But yesterday, the guys released a music for 'Already Home'.
First off, if you're fans of Glee or Gossip Girl or both, you have to put that to one side as the music video features Darren Criss (Blaine from Glee) and Jessica Szhor (Vanessa from Gossip Girl). Once I put that to one side I actually really liked the music video. It's a very literal interpretation of the song for the music video, but I always love that. For me, too many music videos are so art-y and out there, brilliant don't get me wrong, but I don't always understand what it has to do with the song at hand. But this music video makes complete sense to me, depicting a long distance relationship between the two characters. I love the use of a split screen, showing the two characters executing the same daily tasks but in their own cities. It's a completely adorable music video, in my view, which makes me love it.

The song is also absolutely fantastic, like I said, these are one of my favourite bands so far from this year. They may not have the strongest voices in the world but they are unique and it's their unique sound that make them stand out and capture your attention. It's their honest lyrics that makes you fall completely in love with them.

Check out the music video for 'Already Home' below.

MUSIC: This Week's Playlist

So for the last two weeks I've been incredibly busy, but I wanted to post something. I'm going to keep it quite simple but a little different today. This is a bunch of songs that I've been listening to non-stop for the last week or so.

Christina Perri - Human
This song is my absolute favourite song at the moment, it's completely beautiful and self empowering in my opinion. Plus Christina has such a phenomenal voice that doesn't get raved about enough.

This their latest song which was released this week and I'm completely obsessed with it already. It's really cool and fun song, which I personally love.

Megan is a singer on YouTuber and other than Boyce Avenue she's probably my favourite singer on there. This is an original song of hers, it's quite optimistic, in my view. It's a real pop song and girly which every now and again I love listening to this sort of thing.

I absolutely love this song, I say it's my 'jam' at the moment. There's something about it that just makes me really happy and who doesn't love a song that makes you happy, hey? Is it just me who thinks that Aloe Blacc is really cool?

I don't normally listen to Kaiser Chiefs, I mean I know songs like 'I Predict a Riot' but this one has really stuck out to me recently. It was on at work the other day and I don't know what it is about this song, but I just really love it.

MUSIC: I Divide - I'm Not Leaving

I was at work today and on my break I had a notification saying that Kristen Hughes started following me. Now, I had no idea who he was (I'm really sorry), but I did notice the verified blue tick next to his name and saw that he was from a band called I Divide. Now, I had heard of these, as my friend had been talking to me about them the week before, but it had simply slipped my mind to check them out. Anyway, after the notification it reminded to listen to their latest song and it's not what I was expecting.
My friend and I have similar tastes when it comes to music (most of the time) but she often listens to heavier music than me and I honestly, I just wasn't feeling it when she mentioned them to me. However, something told me to check them out today and so I did and was pleasantly surprised.

'I'm Not Leaving' is their latest single and it's pretty cool. They're clearly a rock band but they're not too heavy, I feel a lot of bands are either extremely heavy or they're more pop, but these fall somewhere in the middle which is the sort of thing I like. They sort of remind me a little of You Me At Six with their 'Hold Me Down' and 'Sinners Never Sleep' albums which a little heavier.  The lead singer of the band has a great tone to his voice, in my opinion. It's quite raspy especially in the chorus, which compliments the overall sound of the song well. Moreover, in the bridge the lead singer shows off a softer side of his voice which sounds just as good if not better as the more gravelly side. Also, I like the fact that the song is quite catchy, I'd literally listen to this once and had the chorus in my head but not an annoying catchy-ness (if that makes sense).

I can imagine this song to be really good when played live, so if I ever get to check them out live, I'll let you know. Their debut album, 'Last One Standing'  is released on 14th April, but you can check out their music video for 'I'm Not Leaving' below:

MUSIC: OneRepublic Love Runs Out Preview

I've been obsessed with OneRepublic for years now, and I would just like to say that I called 'Counting Stars' as a massive hit before they even announced it as a single (*flips hair*). Anyway, today, the guys have released a snippet of their new single Love Runs Out, which will be available on the 14th of April (I don't know if this is just an American release date though *cries*).
Either way, you can still listen to the preview of the song. It's different to what we've heard from OneRepublic before, but I think it's a good progression from what you hear on the clip. It sounds like a good movement from their 'Native' album, which experimented more with their overall sound and made it a little more electronic and dance than anything they've done before with the likes of singles 'If I Lose Myself' and 'Feel Again'.

Anyway the song, to me sounds like a hunt or almost like a fight. Which makes sense about fighting until the love runs out. Is it just me who thinks that Ryan Tedder has a sexier tone in his voice in this song, too? (Just  me? Okay, I'll sit in the corner and pretend I don't find him incredibly attractive). There's a heavier beat and bass sound to the song, which doesn't too overpowering or like it's been created on a computer to me (it may have done, I'm not a music expert) but when it sounds completely computer generated that really annoys me. Overall, I like the sound of this song. I think it's a good move and I like how the band aren't waiting months without releasing any new material, as I feel like that has been their downfall previously. Check out the song below:

MUSIC: You Me At Six Cavalier Youth Tour

It was only the other day that I was moaning to one of my best friends about how long it had been since I went to a concert (November 1st to see Tyler Hilton). As someone who spends most of their time looking for new music and basically being obsessed with music this saddened me. So on Wednesday evening one of my longest friends text me asking me if I was seeing You Me At Six on Thursday. My reply was 'no'. You see, a lot of the concerts I've wanted to go to recently have been in arenas and I was scared of getting claustrophobic or passing out in such a big place, but she promised me that it wouldn't happen and that she would look after me. So at 4:30 Thursday afternoon I text her saying I had a ticket and would join her to see one of our favourite bands. This was a big deal for me as I was literally terrified about going to an arena.
We had a lot of trouble getting to the concert, doors opened at 6pm at this time we had only just got on the bus for a 40 minute journey to Nottingham. When we arrived neither of us knew where we going, she had only been in a group before and I had never been to Capital FM Arena. So we finally arrived at the arena at 7:20pm. However, we hadn't missed any of the supports and we didn't have to queue to get in (good timing, eh?). You're probably thinking we were stood right at the back with a terrible view, but no, we got in the middle as I didn't want to get too far forward to start with in case I started panicking.

The first support was a band called Young Kato. Neither me or my friend had ever heard of them before so we didn't know what to expect. But they were actually really good, we both thought that they had a similar sound to Two Door Cinema Club, which is one of my favourite bands ever, so I obviously really enjoyed them. I'll definitely be looking into more of their music as I was really impressed with them.

The next support was Don Broco, and when the lead singer walked on I'm not going to lie I thought 'what a prat'. I dunno what it was about him but he annoyed me at first, but when he started singing and the band began to play I actually enjoyed them. They moved around the stage well and I liked the fact that he asked the crowd to push back a little so the people at the front didn't get crushed, it's the first time I've seen that happen. He also wore a pair of pants over the top of his jeans for half the set after a fan threw them up on stage, which I loved (that sounds a little pervy, doesn't it? Oh well). Similarly to Young Kato I will be checking out their music as I'd never heard of them before either and I thought they were pretty good live.

Finally it was time for You Me At Six. They were my first ever concert when I was 16 and now my first ever arena concert when I'm 18 and wow have they changed. I love the fact that they did a mix of new and old songs. Personally, I don't like it when bands only do songs from their latest album, it's just a little annoying. I love the fact at an arena you can scream along to the songs and not care what the people around you are thinking, because the atmosphere is completely contagious. I love the fact that when they shout 'jump' everyone does jump about and goes crazy (well, nearly everyone). But my favourite part of the show is when the lights come up, Josh stopped singing and the crowd just sings back to them. If I was on the stage I would totally breakdown, because that's got to feel so special having thousands of people singing your lyrics back to you and knowing that they support you completely.

The band was completely amazing. Josh sounded incredible and since I last saw them they he has got to be an even better performer. It's strange to see how the band has changed in the two years since I last saw them but they were completely amazing. Max, Chris, Matt and Dan all sounded incredible too. I also love that they had videos playing behind them the whole time, including their latest music video of 'Room to Breathe' and behind the scenes of the lads just being lads. Me and my friend had an absolutely amazing time at the concert and even though we didn't push too far forward we still had decent views. My favourite songs that they played live were 'Stay With Me', 'Wild Ones', 'Loverboy', 'Bite My Tongue', 'Room to Breathe' and 'Reckless', but every song that they played were great. The crowd was absolutely insane for 'Bite My Tongue' and 'Room to Breathe'.

The two of us did miss the last bus home, however, by about 10 seconds and so we got stranded in Nottingham until my brother came to pick us up. But that meant that we had time to catch up, as I hadn't seen her properly for months (work and school gets in the way). We also just talked about the gig.

If you haven't seen You Me At Six live before, I would seriously recommend it, they're playing Leeds and Reading festival and I'm sure they will be amazing. They're one of my favourite bands to see live. Also, if you're like me and are nervous about going to an arena I just want to say it's really  not bad. You get more room than at more intimate gigs and if anything was too happen like you began to panic or felt ill, there are plenty of people around that will help you, like security and first aiders etc. You will really regret not going in the long run, trust me. You could always stay near the back and when you feel comfortable then move forward anyway. I cannot wait to start booking more tickets again.
