MUSIC: Hilary Duff - Breathe In Breathe Out

Hilary Duff has been an idol of mine for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching 'Lizzie McGuire' as a kid and I've followed her career ever since. She has always just seemed like a lovely person and I loved her movies, her music and her style. So when she announced that she was releasing a new album I was more than excited and have been waiting patiently for the release. With singles 'Chasing the Sun', 'All About You', and 'Sparks' being released ahead of the album as teasers for the album, I wasn't too sure what to expect as each single seemed so different.
If one thing is sure about this album, Hilary Duff has created a perfect pop album and a great comeback.Taking a break from music since 2007, it was obvious she needed to come back with a bang, and this hits the mark. Continuing with the dance sound that she had with 'Dignity' she's taken a fresher tone to the album, with less mystery and a sugary sound. But she also shows maturity with this album. On the whole, the album is very solid pop album that will no doubt get you up dancing.

For me, however, there are some clear stand out tracks, starting with the opening track and single 'Sparks'. It's one that's had to grow a little on me, but I am addicted to it now. It's a track that I can hear playing in clubs and getting everybody up. I also love the new fan demanded music video for the track. I like that it's perfect pop with a little quirkiness to it too, it's also incredibly catchy. Another favourite of mine is 'My Kind'. I like the melody of the music, it has a very current sound to it but with a hint of her previous work which I love. It sounds a lot fresher and with Hilary Duff's sweet sounding tone in voice works well.

'Lies' is co-written by Hilary Duff and is reminiscent of her 'Dignity' album with the echoing and slightly distorted voice in the background. I love the stuttering in the chorus of lies. It's a little deeper this track, describing a relationship breakdown and not putting up with their lies anymore. It's definitely a post breakup song and a moving on track. She shows strength and yet vulnerability in the track and she's hit the perfect balance. 'Stay In Love' is another track similar to 'Lies' though it has a different tone to it, it has the theme of holding on to a love that maybe isn't the best for them. What I love about the album is that all the songs are really catchy but all stand out in their own way.

I was looking forward to the track that Hilary Duff had recorded with Ed Sheeran as a fan of both artists I had a lot of expectations and 'Tattoo' doesn't disappoint for me. I've had this track on repeat since hearing it. Its a lot softer sound to it than the rest of the album and more of the acoustic sound that we are used to from Ed Sheeran. It has a honesty about it and shows her vulnerable. I personally think that it's an incredibly beautiful song whilst remaining catchy. 'Tattoo' is definitely the stand out for me on this album.

MUSIC: Hilary Duff - Sparks

Last week Hilary Duff released the audio for new single 'Sparks' and we see the return to dance/pop music from her. Whilst her last two singles had more of an indie/folk vibe to them this is clearly something that you're more likely to hear in a club.

'Sparks' is incredibly catchy, I listened to the song and had the chorus in my head. It also has that ability to make you want to get up and dance along and have fun. For me, music has to make you feel something whether that's great emotions or simply makes you want to dance. 'Sparks' is exactly that for me, it's fun and flirty, a song perfect to singing along to when your getting ready for a night out with the girls. The song is more mature than Hilary Duff's previous releases, but what else would you expect as both herself and her audience have grown up now. I like the dance approach that she's took this single, it kind of reminds me of 'Dignity' but with more modern beats. I also really love the whistling in the song, it adds that fun and bouncy feel to the song.

Whilst I loved 'All About You' this feels like what I'm used to from Hilary Duff and I know a lot of fans are happy about this return. Either way, I'm looking forward to her album whether that be an indie/folk or dance album. Or the album could be an appreciation of all the types of music that Hilary Duff likes, it will be interesting to see what her approach will be on the album and this release has only made me more excited.

MUSIC: Hilary Duff - All About You

Yesterday, Hilary Duff released the audio for new single 'All About You' and it's bloody amazing. I've been a huge Hilary Duff fans for as long as I can remember, now and so this comeback is making me incredibly excited. I liked 'Chasing the Sun' but it just didn't seem like the comeback debut I was hoping for but this is definitely it.
'All About You' is the perfect pop song. It's got the same sort of folk vibe that featured in 'Chasing the Sun' but it's a bit more edgier and rocky. There's a stronger beat that's slightly heavier which I really like and it sounds more like her 'Metamorphosis' and her self titled album, which were probably my favourites, but 'All About You' is more mature. Depicting the story of falling in love with someone and not wanting to hide it any longer.

It's incredibly catchy, I think it was only after a couple of listens that I knew pretty much all the words to this song. It takes me back to music that I really loved listening to growing up, but more mature. I like how it sounds more natural and acoustic compared to a lot of synthesised sounds that you hear now. I was reading some comments which said she sounded a little like Taylor Swift, I can see it a little, but she sounds a little more edgier, in my opinion. 'I really hope that this song takes Hilary Duff back into the charts because in my opinion its a perfect pop and summer anthem. I cannot wait until the album is released.

MUSIC: Hilary Duff - Chasing the Sun

When I was growing up, Lizzie McGuire was always on my TV so it's fair to say that I am a pretty big fan of Hilary Duff's. She's always made that sort of cute music that just made me happy (up until Dignity (2007) which was edgier and made me want to dance). On Tuesday, she released her music video for her comeback single 'Chasing The Sun'. I was looking around online before writing this to see what other people thought, and there seems to be mixed reviews.
The song was penned by Colbie Caillat, which is where the more folky sound comes from, I like that it's guitar driven, rather than dance and hip hop like a lot of chart music at the moment. If you're looking for a big powerful 'WOW' vocal, you're not going to find that here. However, that being said I like the song. It has a slightly different approach, we've always seen her doing pop-rock and dance whereas now we can see her going for a slightly more folk alternative pop sound and I think it's worked well in this song.

It's the sort of song that makes you smile and it's so catchy. I listened to this once and was singing it all day at work. It's definitely the sort of song that grows on you. I must admit that I probably wouldn't have picked it for a comeback single, however, I think it shows off her new more mature sound whilst keeping to her roots of Metamorphosis. I think the release of the song now is perfect though, it's definitely a summer song as the title would suggest. The music video is pretty cool too. I will admit I have laughed each time I've watched the (spoiler alert) scene of her going to play volley ball with her hamster - classic. Hilary also looks stunning in this video.
